Alvis Pittman

Benjamin Alvis Pittman, 91, of Elm City, passed away July 24, 2017.

The visitation with the family will be held at Elm City Missionary Baptist Church on Thursday from 10-11 AM. The funeral will be at 11 AM in the church. Burial will follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery, Elm City.

He was born June 24, 1926 in Edgecombe County, to the late Henry Luther and Mary Ruth Beland Pittman. He was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Mildred Cobb Pittman and brothers, William Edward Pittman and Ernest Franklin Pittman.

He was a devoted member of Elm City Missionary Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and was an active member of the Brotherhood. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially great grandson, Evan and grand dog, Milo. He retired after working over 50 years at Cobb Furniture Store and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan.

He is survived by daughters, Vicki Pittman, of Elm City; Sharon Pittman Strickland and husband, Terry, of Spring Hope; grandchildren, Andrew Strickland and wife, Maggie; Abby Strickland Pace and husband, Chris and great-grandchild, Evan Strickland, all of Spring Hope; brother, Grady Pittman and wife, Jeanette of Rocky Mount; sisters, Lois Pittman Johnson of Wilson and Elaine Pittman Webb of Wilson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Elm City Missionary Baptist Church, P.O. Box 667, Elm City, NC 27822 or charity of your choice.
