Anita Kyles

Anita Turlington Kyles, 82, of Sanford, passed away on April 18, 2024. She was surrounded by her daughters, Tracey and Eleanor, and her son-in-law Matt. She was born in Fremont, North Carolina on July 24, 1941 to Oscar Eli and Evelyn Hooks Turlington.

Anita was preceded in death by her husband, Alan Lindsey Kyles in September 2023; parents; sisters, Ebbie Mooring and Susan Swindell.

She is survived by her daughters, Tracey Elkins (Wesley) of Cameron and Eleanor Smith (Matt) of Willow Spring; grandchildren, Meredith Ward (Jeffrey), John Alan Payne, Elijah Smith, and Asher Smith; sisters, Betsy Smith (Chip) of Fremont; Linda Mooring (Donald) of Destin, FL, and Eliza McBride of Vienna, WVA; numerous nieces and nephews.

Upon graduation from Fremont School, Anita continued her education at Louisburg College. Shortly after, she and Alan met and married. 

Eventually, Anita and Alan settled in Sanford, North Carolina where they raised Tracey and Eleanor. While in Sanford, Anita was the church secretary for Jonesboro United Methodist Church for 19 years. 

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Jonesboro United Methodist Church in Sanford, North Carolina on Sunday, May 5 at 3:00 PM.
