Bertha Edmundson Davis

Bertha Edmundson Davis, 97, of Fremont, NC passed away on March 4, 2023, at home surrounded by family.

The visitation will begin at 9:30 am with a funeral following at 11 am on Wednesday, March 8, at Fremont United Methodist Church, Fremont.  Interment will follow in Elmwood Cemetery.

She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, friend, and educator.  She was a member of Fremont United Methodist Church.  

Born on December 21, 1925, in Wayne County, Bertha was the daughter of the late Burrell and Bessie Edmundson.  She graduated from East Carolina University with a degree in elementary education.  A respected educator for 30 years, Mrs. Davis, taught in both Wilson and Johnston counties.  She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Winston Davis; her siblings, Mollie E. Kirby, Jim C. Edmundson, Lawlos E. Bland, Atha E. Tunnell, B.J. Edmundson, Roscoe Edmundson, Ruth E. Hokum, LaDell Shackelford, and Henry Edmundson.

She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Terry Davis Barnes and Devon Barnes; son and daughter-in-law, Gary Davis and Cindy Davis; a bonus daughter; Winnie Sue Sasser and husband Sam Sasser all of Fremont; five grandchildren, Jenna Wooten-Quade and husband Michael Quade of Raleigh; Rob Wooten and wife Katie Wooten of Sanford; Jill Davis of Greenville; Garrett Davis and wife Owen Davis of Winterville and Grant Sasser and wife Lauren of Fremont, ten great grandchildren, Markie, Winston, Emilia Ruth, Vivian, Wicker, Lucy, Molly, Adaline, Graham, and Watson. Also surviving are many beloved nieces and nephews, step grandchildren; Elliott Barnes, Stephen Barnes and Katherine Peters; six step great grandchildren; and caregivers, Betsy Ingram, JoAnn Barnes, Linda Hunt, and Gentiva Hospice.
