Burt Whitley

Rod Burton “Burt” Whitley, 59, of Wilson, died Saturday, January 27, 2024.  He was born July 27,1964, in Charleston, SC.

A memorial lunch is planned for family and close friends at a future date.

He is survived by his mother, Nina Whitley Williamson, and his step-father, Jackie Williamson; aunt, Shirley W. Borja (Melquidas).

Preceding him in death was his wife, Yvonne Rowland Whitley; father, Roddy Mattson Svedberg; maternal grandparents; paternal grandparents; cousins, Walter Lee Boone and Jimmy Nathan Boone.

Burt attended Fike High School and completed his GED after discharge from the US Army.  He was employed in forestry before becoming a driver for Food Lion and Winn Dixie.

He enjoyed the beach with his wife, “Sissy” and the family gatherings as well as his pets.  He had a lifelong friendship with Tammy Gomez who loved and will forever miss him as much as his family misses him.
