Buster Short

Jesse J. “Buster” Short, 93, of Wilson, died Saturday, October 3, 2026.

Funeral, Thursday, 7:00 PM, at Wilson Memorial Service. The visitation will be before the service from 5:30 - 7:00 PM.  An inurnment service for the family will be at Evergreen Memorial Park, beside his wife, Peggy Baker Short, who died in 2006.

Surviving is his daughter Evelyn Short of Wilson; brother-in-law, Ray Baker (Carol) of Wilson, and several nieces and nephews.

Buster was born January 5, 1933, in Wilson County to Emmit and Cora Hayes Short. He graduated Charles L. Coon High School, served two years in the Army and returned to Wilson and graduated from Atlantic Christian College (now Barton) in 1958. He was employed at BB&T, Bridgers Paint Company, The Color Center, and Carolina Cabinet Company.

Active in the community, he was in the Jaycees and Evening Kiwanis Club for many years serving in numerous positions.

In addition to his wife and his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Norma Hawley (Elmer) and Edith Daniel (Marvin); brothers, Norman Short (Hiawatha) and Merlin Short (Dorothy).

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Forest Hills Baptist Church, 1407 Forest Hills Church Rd, Wilson, NC 27896 or to Eastgate Church, 2301 Montgomery Dr, W, Wilson, NC 27893.
