Candee Kornegay

Candee Gunter Kornegay, 55, of Angier, North Carolina, went home to be with her Lord on June 3, 2026, finally free from the struggles that followed her through this life.

Born and raised in Durham, North Carolina, Candee was a woman of deep and abiding faith that somehow survived everything life threw at her, which was considerable. She lived her life in full color, which was sometimes beautiful and sometimes a lot, and always completely her.

She was a mama through and through. Her children Alston, Lily, and Daniel were her whole heart. In her final chapter, when Candee could no longer care for herself, it was her daughter Lily who stepped up — caring for her mother with grace and devotion until the very end.

She is survived by her father Bob (Gail) Gunter; her sisters, Julie (Bill) Hotchkiss and Amy Gunter; her children Alston, Lily and Daniel; her grandchildren, AJ, Henry, Baylen and Benjamin; her nephews, Matthew and Michael; and her dear friend Frankie Clayton.

She was preceded in death by her mother Barbara Gunter, who we imagine met her at the gate with open arms and a few things to say.

A celebration of life will take place Saturday June 6, 2026 12:00 - 2:00 at the home Julie and Bill Hotchkiss, 11210 Oakcroft Drive, Raleigh NC 27614.
