Carl Johnson

Carl Ray Johnson, 85, of Elm City, died Sunday, May 28, 2023.

Funeral, Thursday, 11:00 AM, Evergreen Memorial Park, Wilson.

He served in the Army, 1960-63, and was proud to come home to be a part of the Cox-Putney American Legion Post holding several different positions through the years.  He enjoyed work as a truck driver delivering freight across eastern counties.

Surviving is his wife, Nancy Winstead Johnson; step-daughter, Betsy Sullivan (Hunter) of Wilson; step-son, Butch O’Briant (Dianne) of Wilson; step-grandchildren, Anna Sullivan, Grace Heath (Corey) and Kim Coleman (Chan); great-great-grandchildren, Keenan Coleman (Halei) and Cassie Coleman; great-great-great-grandchildren, Saint Coleman and Indy Coleman; sisters, Kathleen Whitley (Dwight) of Kenly and Esther Windham (Charles) of Little Rock, AK; brothers, Jasper Johnson (Beth) of Wilson and Walter Durwood Johnson (Bonnie) of Fremont.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jasper and Rachel Watson Johnson of Wilson County; sister, Lula Strickland in 2018; brother, Riley Johnson.
