Carolyn Wooten Pierce died January 21, 2026, peacefully in her home in Cary, surrounded by family.
A Celebration of Life Service will be on Friday, January 30, 1:00 PM, at Wilson Memorial Service, Wilson, followed by visitation.
Carolyn was born on April 13, 1954. She was preceded in death by her parents, Martha Ann Frances and Eugene Wooten of Pinetops, and by four siblings: Rusty Wooten, Frankie Wooten, Jerome Wooten, and Joyce Brewer.
She lived briefly in Edgecombe County before moving to Wake County as a child. She spent most of her life in Wilson County and later returned to Wake County to live her golden years.
Carolyn spent her life sacrificing for others. She worked faithfully for Wilson Memorial Hospital for nearly 50 years, where she demonstrated a strong work ethic and built a close-knit work family. Through her work at the hospital, she met so many people whom she loved deeply.
She was a devoted Christian and a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church, where she grew in her faith in Christ and served for many years in the Children’s Ministry. The most beautiful display of her sacrificial spirit was the way she lived for her family. Carolyn loved traveling with them, especially on trips to the mountains. She also loved spending time with family in the Outer Banks. She had an infectious laughter and throughout her life was well known for her sense of humor. She was also notorious for eating dessert before dinner.
Carolyn was a loving mother to three daughters and one son that loved and supported her: Amy Oslar, husband Marc, and their daughters, Ariana, Calista, Finley, and Stella of Cary; Lorie Brewer and her son, Colin, of Cary; and Leigh Drummond, husband, Dwayne, of Kill Devil Hills, and Benjamin Pierce, wife, Jancey of Cary. She is survived by one sister, Patricia Taylor of Wilson, and many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.
The birth of Benjamin was a life-changing time for Carolyn and her daughters, ushering in a “boy mom” season filled with ball games, carpool, and lots of friends coming and going.
Carolyn moved to Cary over ten years ago, and for much of that time her family lived together in the same neighborhood. She worshipped at Pleasant Plains Baptist Church of Apex while living in Cary.
Her favorite role by far was being a grandmother. Her children and grandchildren were the joy of her life, and she cherished years of quality family time with the loved ones God gave her.
After being diagnosed with glioblastoma, Carolyn faced each challenge the same way she lived her life — with dignity, strength, and grace. She was supported by her family every step of the way. Carolyn loved God, her family, and her friends well. Her beauty and kindness will forever live in our hearts. She will be greatly missed.
