Clarence Proctor

Clarence Proctor, 97, of Wilson, died Sunday December 7, 2025.

His funeral will be at 11:00 AM Friday at Wilson Memorial Service. The Rev. Paul Dunham will officiate. The family will receive friends before the service from 10:00-10:45.

He was a beloved husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle and brother. Born in 1928, Clarence was the middle of three children and grew up in Saratoga, NC. He graduated from Saratoga High School and later attended Atlantic Christian College, now Barton College.

He met the love of his life, Jean, on a blind date on August 8, 1948, when he was 19 and knew she was the one. After serving in the Army during the Korean War, he and Jean married and settled in Wilson where Clarence worked as a Purchasing Agent at a local manufacturing company. Together, Jean and he raised two daughters, Sandy and Karen, who were very special to him. He was devoted to his family.

Clarence was known for generously giving of his time and talents and for his commitment to serve others. His hobby was woodworking at which he was extremely talented. He made many gifts – outdoor benches, chairs, birdhouses and numerous pieces of fine indoor furniture—for family and friends. He made a wardrobe unit for choir robes and an indoor mailbox unit for his church, Winstead United Methodist Church formerly located on Tarboro Street, where he was a long-time member. He held many positions at the church including a choir member for many years. He also cooked for the Methodist Men’s breakfasts and prepared BBQ chicken and boiled peanuts for the Church’s fundraisers.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife (of 70+ years) Jean Proctor, daughters Sandy Tyndall and husband Paul of Wilmington, NC; Karen Sledge and husband Bill of Farmville, NC; grandchildren, Taylor Benham and husband Adrian of Denver, CO; Peyton Harrell and husband Ryan of Charlotte, NC; Josh Tyndall and wife Taylor of Wilmington, NC; great grandchildren Slate, Blakeley, Henry, Viv and Wynn and many nieces and nephews.

Clarence was preceded in death by his parents Offie and Addie Proctor; his Sister Clara Skinner; and his brother, Clinton Proctor, Sr.
