Doris Parker

April 30, 1929 — February 21, 2017

BAILEY - Doris Harper Parker entered into the Kingdom of Heaven on February 21, 2017.

Doris was born on April 30, 1929 in the community of Stanhope, NC to parents E.P. and Hattie Bragg Harper. She graduated from Atlantic Christian College in Wilson where shortly thereafter, she married the love of her life, Clarence Elwood "Woody" Parker.

Ms. Doris' life was of service to her family, her church, community and a host of neighbors and friends near and far. Being a lifelong member of the Stanhope Baptist Church, she served in many capacities over numerous years always with a cheerful heart of servitude. She will be remembered by her family for leaving the home nightly after supper with her mother to go and visit the elderly and sick whether in their homes, hospital or nursing homes. Ms. Doris retired from a lifetime of teaching in the Nash County Public School System.

Her floral designs have graced many weddings, church services and special events. Ms. Doris was above all, a most gracious southern lady where her genuine love, faith, wisdom and fashions were an inspiration. Her other interests include interior design, antiques and gardening of which she used these God given interests and talents to further serve others which added color to this earth with beauty and made memorable life experiences for many.

Ms. Doris Parker was predeceased by her parents, her husband, her brother, Braxton Bragg Harper and her sister, Ernestine H. Bissette.

Blessed and honored to carry on her traditions and legacies are her daughter, Martha Paige Parker Walker (Bob); granddaughter, Lisa Jump, great-grandchildren, Ashley and Meredith Jump; her closest cousins, Jackie Hurdle and Betsy Lane; her compassionate caregivers, neice, Edith Rose Beddingfield and Rosa Garcia, Janet Bissette, Knox Olsen, Sue Bissette, Julia Wenz and a multitude of special angels that adopted Ms. Doris as a mother, close friend and confidant... .. you know who you are.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Stanhope Baptist Church, 4147 West NC Hwy. 97, Spring Hope, at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 26, 2017. Interment will follow at the Bailey Town Cemetery located at 11379 NC Hwy. 581 N, Bailey.

A time of visitation and fellowship with the family will be held at The Leaning Tree located at 6168 Deans Street, Bailey, on Sunday, February 26, 2017 from 4 to 6 p.m. (No parking at the Bailey Post Office). Other times, the family will be at the home of her daughter, Martha located at 4160 Lake Wilson Road N, Wilson.

The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to her lifelong church of Stanhope Baptist, c/o E. Gayle Pace, Treasurer, 3458 W NC 97, Spring Hope, NC 27882.
