Doris Holmes Whitley

Doris Viverette Holmes Whitley, 94, of Elm City, died Friday, March 24, 2023.

A Celebration of Life Service will be Thursday, 6:00 PM at Wilson Memorial Service, followed by visitation.

Doris retired from the City of Wilson after 30 plus years of service.  She started her career in the finance department as a bookkeeping machine operator and worked her way up and retired as computer operations supervisor in the finance department.

She loved being outdoors, always looking for opportunities travel.  Whether to Cragmont or Hawaii, Doris always enjoyed time with friends and family.  Doris enjoyed working in the flower beds around her home.  She routinely demonstrated her green thumb, nursing flowers thought to be without hope, back to health.

She is survived by her brother, Carlton Viverette (Molly); grandson, Adam Holmes; great-grandchildren, Bryson and Laney Holmes; daughter-in-law, Gail Holmes Wallace (Gary); Randolph’s children, Becca Hughes (Bear) and Randah Whitley (Ray Shackelford) and Mike Whitley and numerous nephews.

Mrs. Holmes was preceded in death by her husband, Randolph Whitley; son, Ernie Holmes; parents, Ernest and Ethel Langley Viverette and sister, Annette Winstead.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Kitty Askins Hospice Center, 107 Handley Park Ct, Goldsboro, NC 27534 or the charity of one’s choice.
