Doug Winstead

Gene Douglas “Doug” Winstead, 78, died Friday, November 22, 2024.

Funeral, Wilson Memorial Service, Tuesday, 6:00 PM, followed by a time of visiting and sharing.

Surviving is his wife, Mary Ellen Zielinski Winstead, whom he met in Ohio in 1980; sons, Ryan Hartman of Rocky Mount and Brandon Hartman of Canton, OH; grandchildren, William, Haley, and Madison Hartman; sister, Barbara George of Smithfield.

He was a son of the late Bennie Earl and Polly Cone Winstead of Wilson County; preceding him also were sisters, Lorraine, Betty Anne and Eula May; brothers, Earl, Glen, Billy, Roger and Bennie. 

He graduated from ACC (now Barton) with a degree in business. In retirement after 30 years at Firestone, he really enjoyed sports as an avid golfer, die hard Washington Redskins (now Commanders) and Carolina Tarheel fan; fishing and hunting.

Memorials are suggested to the charity of one’s choice.
