Gerald Batts

Edward Gerald Batts, 80, of Wilson, passed away at his home on Friday, March 22, 2024.

A graveside service will be Friday, 9:30 AM at Maplewood Cemetery, Wilson, with Rev. Scott Schieber presiding, followed by visitation among family and friends.

Gerald was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Margaret Bogue Batts.

He was a graduate of Ralph L. Fike High School. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Horticulture from Atlantic Christian College, then earned a Masters degree from North Carolina State University. After completing his degree, he lived in Washington DC working as a botanist at the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History. He later returned to Wilson to care for his parents.
