Glenda Hawley

Kenly – Glenda Faye Cooper Hawley, 79, of the Mount Zion Community, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by family on Sunday, June 25, 2023.

She was born March 24, 1944 in Portlock, Virginia to Alvin and Dayzell Cooper.  She was a 1962 graduate of Glendale High School.  Glenda married Wallace Hawley on March 17, 1967, and recently celebrated 56 years of marriage.  She provided bookkeeping services for Wallace's masonry business from 1967 until he retired.  Glenda was a faithful member of Mt. Zion Free Will Baptist church where she helped Wallace maintain the churches bookkeeping and finances.  She was a loving and caring wife, Mama, Mema, sister, aunt, and friend who will be missed by all who knew her.

Glenda provided many home cooked meals for her family, enjoyed working in her flowers and crafts, and spending time with her family.  Mama was very dedicated to her family and provided a good loving home.  She always put others before herself.

Funeral, Wednesday, 3:00 PM, Mount Zion FWB Church, 9300 Johnson Farm Rd, Kenly, with visiting and sharing beginning at 1:00 PM.  Burial, church cemetery.

Surviving is her husband of 56 years, Wallace L. Hawley; son, Chris Hawley of Wilson; daughters, Tisha Phipps (Duke), Shana Wheeler (Jason), and Melissa Renfrow (Ronald) all of the community; grandchildren, Karah Flowers, Tiffany, Amber, Felicia Hawley, Gabby and Harper Renfrow, Mackenzie and Payton Wheeler; great-grandchildren, Aubrey, Cora, Lily Capps and Logan Perez; sisters, Dianne Massey and Denise Hales (John) of Kenly; brother, J.A. Cooper of Smithfield.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to Hospice of Wilson, hospital staff at Wilson Medical Center and the many family members and friends who helped provide loving care for Mama during this time.
