Glendoline Rowe

Glendoline Dunn Rowe, 96, of Lucama, passed away Saturday, August 20, 2022.

Funeral, Thursday, 11:00 AM, Little Rock OFWB Church.  Interment, Lucas Cemetery.  The visitation will be at Wilson Memorial Service, Wednesday, 6:00-7:30 PM.  The family will be at the home of Mary Katherine Rowe all other times.

Grandma Toots, as she was affectionately known to many, grew up in rural Wilson County and lived the majority of her life in Lucama. At a young age, Glendoline began working in the tobacco field alongside her family. When she got older, she worked at Carolina Casuals and Seams in Wilson for many years where she tagged shirts with lifelong friends Frances Harrell, Virginia Skinner and Mildred Peaden.

In her spare time, Glendoline spent much time making clothes for herself and those she loved.  She was an expert seamstress who loved to use her talents to help others.  She also made exquisite wedding doll gowns, giving many of the young girls in the family one as a gift.

Grandma Toots loved children and would be the first one to agree to keep any child in the neighborhood that needed to be watched.  She raised many cousins, nieces, nephews, and family friends throughout her life. Her love of children certainly extended to her church family.  She was a faithful servant of Little Rock Original Free Will Baptist Church in Lucama where she served many a Sunday rocking babies in the nursery.

Grandma Toots loved cooking for her family.  She was famous for her drop biscuits, her homemade chicken pastry, chicken salad, fried chicken and most importantly, her Old-Fashioned Chocolate cake.  Her chocolate cake was requested by every family member at all of their birthdays and special occasions.   She loved teaching her family to cook, although, some of them still can’t boil water.

She was a loving spirit with a quick wit that she shared with anyone that graced her doorstep or had the privilege of enjoying her company.  She was always one to speak her mind.  She loved with an open heart and would do anything she could to help anyone that needed it.  Her crooked smile, twinkling eyes and huge heart will be missed the most by those who knew and loved her.

Grandma Toots is survived by her daughter in law, Mary Katherine Rowe; granddaughters, Jennifer Ferguson, husband, Matt and Jessica Liggon, husband, Spencer, and Silke Gelhaus; great-grandchildren, Loreli and Connor Ferguson, Haley and Hunter Hill and great-great grandson, Alexander Romine.  She had numerous nieces and nephews whom she adored, along with a long list of extended family and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her beloved son, Alvin Earl Rowe; parents, Marcellus and Maggie Dunn as well as brother, Thomas Dunn and sisters, Nona Dunn High and Cora Lea Dunn Braswell.

Memorials may be made to Little Rock OFWB Church, Building Fund, PO Box 340, Lucama, NC 27851.
