Hilda Whitley

WILSON - Hilda Stevens Whitley, 78, died Thursday, August 12, 2010. Funeral, Sunday, 2 PM, First Baptist Church. Interment, Maplewood Cemetery. She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, William "Bill" Henry Whitley. A native of Whiteville, she was the daughter of Fred Lacy and Eva Mae Dudley Stevens. Bill and Hilda moved to Wilson shortly after their wedding and her graduation from the Business School at Woman's College of the University of North Carolina. She concentrated on raising their family and was active in First Baptist Church and the Woman's Club. Surviving are her daughters, Lynn Joyner, and husband, Jody, of Raleigh and Paige Walker and husband, John, of Hickory; a son, John Whitley, his wife, Patti, of Wilmington; grandchildren, Sarah Lynn Davis of Charlotte, Joseph Joyner of Athens, GA, Will Whitley, Hunter Walker and David Joyner of Raleigh, Celia and Meredith Whitley of Wilmington. The family will be at home, Saturday, 5:30 - 8 PM. Memorials are suggested to First Baptist Church Building Fund, PO Box 1467, Wilson NC 27894, or to the charity of one's choice.
