Hugh “J.R.” Summerlin, Jr., 89, of Elm City, died Wednesday, March 22, 2023.

Funeral, Saturday, 3:00 PM, Evergreen Memorial Park. Visitation, Friday, 7:00-8:30 PM, Wilson Memorial Service.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma Webb Summerlin; parents, Hugh and Zelphia Sutton Summerlin; sister, Dorothy Carr; brother, John Summerlin.

Mr. Summerlin is survived by his daughters, Patricia Elmore (Garry) of Elm City and Barbara Gardner (Larry) of Wilson; son, Jerry Summerlin (Wendy) of Elm City; grandchildren, Lisa Ellington (Michael), Chad Summerlin, Collin Summerlin; great-grandchildren, Joshua Ellington, Coleton Ellington, Skylar Summerlin, C. J. Summerlin and Merissa Summerlin; sisters, Ruby Lee Webb of Wilson, Mary Webb of Fountain and Margie Herring of Goldsboro; brothers, Jimmy Hathaway of Fountain and Lewis Hathaway (Darlene) of MD.
