Jerry Tucker

Jerald Howard Tucker, “Jerry”, son of the late Herbert Clifton Tucker and Mable Thorne Tucker, born on September 26, 1942, was ushered peacefully into Heaven with his family by his side, on Friday, September 8, 2023.

A Celebration of Life Service will be Tuesday, September 12, 6:30 PM, at Wilson Memorial Service.  The visitation will be one hour before the service.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Herbert C. Tucker III “Tommy”.

Jerry is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Cynthia Bender Tucker and have been together 42 years. He is also survived by his daughter, Jerri Drae Tucker and partner, Henry Weil, of Raleigh; son, Christopher Allen Griffin and wife, Ashley, of Goldsboro; sister, Mary Beth Cowper and husband, Lee “ Skeet” Cowper of Wilmington; granddaughters, Skylar Griffin Pate and husband, Bradley, of Pikeville, and Tanner Griffin of Goldsboro; nephew, David L. Tucker and wife, Fran, and niece, Amy E. Tucker, both of Columbia, SC.

Jerry was born in Tarboro and later moved to Kinston where he attended Grainger High School and made many lifelong friends. He was on the swim team and could be found most days at Emma Webb Park. Later, he moved to Goldsboro where he started his career at BB&T.  He was a member of Walnut Creek Country Club where he spent many happy days on the golf course with his buddies. Cynthia and Jerry then resided in Wilson where he continued his career at the bank. He was very active in the community serving as President of the Sertoma Club for several years. Jerry also had a passion for cars, especially fast ones. Cynthia and Jerry were members of the Eastern Carolina Corvette Club in Wilson. They enjoyed car shows, trips, and fulfilling their need for speed. Most importantly they enjoyed participating together.

After five years of retirement, he went to work part time for NAPA delivering auto parts. He loved that job.  He was working with old friends, seeing lots of people and driving around drinking sweet tea!

Jerry finally retired completely and started going for coffee and breakfast every day at Bill’s Grill downtown Wilson. He was in heaven. All the waitresses knew him, hugged him, and listened to him. Finally, the thing Jerry loved other than Cynthia and his family were his dogs Jake and Charlie, and more recently Reddington.
