February 9, 1950 — July 12, 2018

WILSON - James (Jim) Milliard Roberts, Jr. passed away July 12, 2018 from complications of Acute Myeloid Leukemia. His amazing strength to beat this deadly disease was unwavering. He was a long time resident of Wilson.

Jim was born in Nash County February 9, 1950 to James Milliard and Verla Evans Roberts. Jim graduated from Rocky Mount Senior High School and served in the U.S. Army. He worked for Waste Industries for 27 years and at the time of his death, he was Territory Manager, Cummins Sales and Service, formerly Cummins Atlantic, Kenly, since 2006.

Jim was an avid cyclist, voracious reader, incredibly funny and a man of great faith.  He attended and taught Sunday School at the First Baptist Church of Wilson. He was very proud of his family and the great gatherings at Christmas, birthdays and summer cookouts by the pool.  He was a true friend and someone you could always depend on in any situation.

If you were to ask him, Jim would say his greatest accomplishments were his two beautiful daughters, Heather and Jayme.  He always said he couldn’t believe how blessed he was with such a wonderful family.

Jim is survived by his wife, Gail, daughters, Heather (Jason) Brown of Apex; Jayme (David) Daniels, stepson, Grant (Meghan) Roberson, all of Wilson, grandchildren, Wesley and Peyton Brown, Harper, James and William Daniels, and Taylor, Zachary, MacKenzie, Hayden and David Roberson. Taylor, brothers-in-law Fred (Kristi) Taylor, Byron and Glenn Taylor and his wonderful nieces, Farrah and Amanda and favorite nephews, Hal, Jeff, Rob and Brian.  Last but not least, his furry girls, Bailey and Allie.  Jim is also survived by his dearly loved family of friends, coworkers, customers, and church family.  To know Jim was to love him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother-in-law, Bob Proctor, brother-in-law, Alan Taylor, mother-in-law, Joan Taylor and stepson, David G. Roberson II.

The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at the Duke Cancer Center, Duke Bone Marrow Clinic and 6 East MICU. Special thanks to Dr. Mitchell E. Horwitz, Bone Marrow Specialist and Dr. Stephan Patrick Bergin, MICU Critical Care Specialist for their outstanding care and compassion.
