Jimmy Waitus Teachey, of Pikeville, a devoted husband, and cherished father and grandfather, passed away on October 17, 2026 at the age of 85.
A graveside service will be at the Pikeville Cemetery on Wednesday at 11:00 AM. The family will speak to those in attendance following the service.
He passed away leaving behind a legacy of hard work, kindness, and unforgettable stories.
For many years, he dedicated himself to his true passion, working as a skilled farrier. His deep love for horses was evident to anyone who watched him work, and he truly excelled in his craft. He possessed a rare patience and strength, earning the trust and respect of both the animals he cared for and the people in his community.
When the time came to retire from farrier service, his hard working spirit kept him moving. He traded the forge for the open road, driving an 18-wheeler and hauling loads all across the country. He loved enjoyed seeing new places, watching the American landscape change through his windshield, and welcoming the freedom of the highway.
Despite all the miles he traveled across the nation, his favorite place in the world was always in the mountains. He was happiest trail riding through Grayson Highlands, or sitting outside enjoying the Mountain View surrounded by his closest friends and family.
He was a man who appreciated the simple, genuine pleasures of life. He never turned down a good meal, or an even better desert. He loved to tell a tale and share a memory with anyone around. Everyone also loved when he fired up the pig cooker and made his famed BBQ.
His strength, warmth, and devotion to his family will be deeply missed but forever cherished in our hearts. Jimmy and Carol were charter members of United In Christ Church.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Carol Fields Teachey; daughters, Lynnette Washam of Fremont and Renee Hollamon (Ron) of Pikeville; son, Jim Teachey (Susie) of Pikeville; grandchildren, Tracy Pittman (Anthony), Tia Wilson (Mark), Trina Gant (Casey), Josh Hollamon (Antoinette), Laura Antrilli (Vincent), Matthew Teachey (fiancée, Gabby) and Phillip Teachey; great-grandchildren, Weston Pittman, Walker Pittman, Waylon Pittman, Hadley Gant, Barrett Wilson, Cooper Wilson , Avery Wilson, Renmarie Antrilli, future great-granddaughter, Liliana Antrilli; sister, Mattie Hartman of Pikeville; special friends, Brian and Ann Pilkington of Princeton.
