Joan Starling

Joan Lane Starling, 80, of Wilson, died Wednesday, April 30, 2025.

Funeral, Friday, 3:00 PM, Maplewood Cemetery, Veterans Section D, officiated by Rev. Donnie Williams, Rev. Ray Parker, and Pastor Shawn Garnett.

She was a faithful member of the Pentecostal Lighthouse for many years. She and Freddie ministered at several other churches, including Calvary Pentecostal Church, where Joan finished serving. She loved to play the piano, sing, and testify about the goodness of God. She loved her children and her grandchildren dearly, and led by example.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Freddie Starling in April, 2022; parents, Jeffery Lee and Ruth Ann Barfield Lane.

Surviving are her daughters, Sharon Runtas of Eureka, Kim Batchelor of Elm City, and Wendy Taylor of Gloucester; son, David Edwards (Brandy) of Newport; sisters-in-law, Shirley Starling Stallings and Jo Ann Starling Harrell; 12 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.
