John Bunyan Bass of Lucama passed from this life on Thursday, September 25, 2025.
He was born June 7, 1944 to William Thomas Bass, Jr. and Alma Ruth Boyette Bass.
A service for his family was conducted at Maplewood Cemetery.
John attended St. Therese Catholic School kindergarten through second grade and graduated from Lucama High School. Upon graduating, he attended Campbell University and the University of Virginia, earning his major in Biology and Science Education. He taught high school science in North Carolina and Virginia for several years. John enjoyed cooking and became an entrepreneur owner with his two brothers in the Orange Gourmet Restaurant in Orange, Virginia, for 16 years. He enjoyed people and had a very outstanding restaurant until it was sold in 1995. While in Orange, he met the best friend anyone could ever have - Betty Virginia Ryalls. They have remained devoted friends for over 45 years.
Surviving are his brothers William “Bill” Thomas Bass III, James “Jim” Wright Bass, and Charles “Chuck” Edward Bass (Janice P.) all of Lucama; nephews, William Thomas Bass IV (Michelle) of Sims, Brad Bass (Sonya) of Four Oaks and Brian Bass of Wilson; great-nieces, Hayden Bass of Lucama and Vera Grace Bass of Sims.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, William Thomas Bass, Sr. and Lizzie Barnes Bass of Lucama and John Bunyan and Cenie Smith Boyette of Wilson.
