John Anderson Covington Jr., 96, of Wilson, passed away peacefully on July 15, 2025.
Born on March 22, 1929, in Danville, Virginia, John was the son of John Anderson and Elizabeth Gwynn Covington. He graduated from Randolph-Macon College before making Wilson, North Carolina his home. There, he began his career as a tobacco buyer alongside his brother-in-law, Pete Fulghum, and the two later became co-owners of Vann's Appliances - a business that became a familiar and trusted part of the local community.
John enjoyed the simple pleasures of life: a good round of golf, the companionship of his dogs, and time spent with friends and family. He will be remembered for his gentle nature, steady presence, and the deep love he held for those close to him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Anne C. Fulghum and his beloved wife, Katie Teague Covington, who passed away in March of this year.
John is survived by his three sons, John Anderson Covington III (Lynda) of Raleigh, Nelson Teague Covington (Janie) of Wilson, and Thomas Gwynn Covington (Susan) of Wilmington. He was a proud grandfather to Kathryn, Nelson, Jack, Anna-Poe, Margaret, and T Covington.
