Joyce Raper

Joyce Taylor Raper, 67, of Lucama, passed away Tuesday, April 7, 2026 after a lengthy health battle.

The visitation will be from 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM, Sunday, April 19, 2026 at Wilson Memorial Service, 2811 Fieldstream Drive N, Wilson.

Joyce was a retired postmaster of with over 20 years of service. The majority served at Black Creek, NC. She loved being around people. Once you met her, she immediately struck up a conversation and soon after you were friends for life. She could carry on a conversation for hours. She was loved by many and will be missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by her husband of 35 years, Donnie Raper; daughter, Lori Wood and husband, Barry, of Fremont; grandchildren, Aaron Wood of Wilson, Victoria Wood of Lucama, and Hope Wood of Knightdale; sisters, Janice Ford of Kinston and Susan Bullock, and husband, Michael, of Wilson; brother, Jimmy Taylor of Wilson as well as several nieces and nephews.

Joyce was preceded in death by her son Zachary Raper; parents Calvin E. Taylor and Dorothy Farmer Taylor; brother, William Taylor; sister-in-law, Amy Foster Taylor.
