Lynwood "Nubbin" Coley

Lynwood “Nubbin” Coley, 67, of Wilson passed away at home on Wednesday, October 28, 2026.

Funeral, Monday, 2:00 PM, at Wilson Memorial Service followed by visitation.

Nubbin was a loving husband, devoted father, proud grandfather, and a man who would give the shirt off his back to help someone in need. He married his wife on March 12, 1978, and together they shared 48 wonderful years of marriage, raising two daughters and welcoming two grandsons who brought him so much joy.

For 34 years, Nubbin worked as a Walmart truck driver, traveling over 3 million miles delivering not only goods but also kindness to those he met along the way. He was a hardworking man who believed in doing what was right and treating others with respect.

Nubbin was a constant source of love, strength, and support for his family. He stood by his wife through life's joys and challenges and taught his daughters the importance of hard work, strength, and loyalty. He was the family protector, someone they could always count on, and their biggest supporter. Some of his greatest lessons were taught not through words, but through the example he set every day.

Nubbin enjoyed fishing, attending church, cooking for his family, and spending time with those he loved. A family trip to Myrtle Beach will always bring smiles as they remember him riding the boys around in the golf cart and playing with them at the water park. By the end of the day, the boys had completely worn him out, but those are the moments his family will treasure forever.

Above all, he loved his family! The love he gave, the lessons he taught, and the memories he leaves behind will forever be a part of those who knew and loved him. And while there are so many things his family and friends will miss, hearing him call everyone “young man” is one of those little things they wish they could hear just one more time.

He is survived by his wife Connie McMillan Coley; daughters, Tasha Lynn Coley (wife of Jeremy Long) of Wilmington and Lara Jean Freeman of Fuquay Varina; grandchildren, Gabriel Allen Long and Kipton Cole Freeman; sister, Doris Coley of Black Creek.

Nubbin was preceded in death by his parents Levey Benton Coley and Virginia Johnson Coley.
