Margaret Stott

On September 28, 2026 Margaret Leggett Stott, age 77, of Wilson, NC passed peacefully while being surrounded by her loved ones. She was most fondly known for her kindness, hospitality, her smile and her servant’s heart. She was a prayer warrior and a friend to all she knew.

Funeral, Friday, 2:00 PM at Peace Church, with visitation beginning at 1:00 PM. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park.

Margaret was born on November 14, 1948 to Mack Henry and Hazel Lorraine Taylor Leggett of Martin County, NC. She graduated from Bear Grass High School in 1967 and went on to study physical education at Pembroke University. After college she was married and moved to Zebulon, NC. She became a proud mom and began her administrative professional career, embodying each roll well. Over the next 20 years she worked for Hi-Cone, Siemens and Glaxo.

In 1989 she married Kenneth Boyette and moved to Wilson, NC. Nestled in the cul-de-sac of Surry Rd her and Ken made a home, new friends while she entertained new career adventures. She went to work for BB&T as a document specialist, BO Barnes as a TA and Stokes Elementary as a computer lab teacher. Somewhere along the ways she joined the Wilson chapter of PSI (Professional Secretaries International) and became a distinguished member of IAAP (International Association of Administrative Professionals) where she made many dear friendships that carried into her last years of life. Aside from her professional career, she also worked alongside of her husband at his auctions, as he put every family member to work, even the youngest. Mom was a well-rounded, hardworking, skilled young lady that really taught me work ethic.

Aside from work, she very much loved to travel and meet new people. They traveled to all 50 states but 1 and probably loved Hawaii the most. She loved to spend time with family, hosting holidays at her house and knowing how to make everyone feel loved and cherished. She loved shop and style outfits from head to toe (from the earrings to the shoes). We always said she was “stylin and profilin.” I often remembered the smell of her perfume as she’d come to my room to kiss me goodbye before work. If it wasn’t perfume it was the crockpot dinner she had cooked overnight carrying its scent into the early morning hours. She was an excellent cook known for her good meals and hospitality where she could make a little go a long way. Everything she did was in love! And we felt it!

One thing to mention about her years in Wilson was her love for Peace Church. She joined and was baptized along side of her husband on March 4, 2001. There were many treasured years there until they decided to downsize and moved to the camp ground at Trantor’s Creek in Washington, NC. Again, they found themselves surrounded by a community of friends that felt more like family. They loved hosting family, taking boat rides, taking the grandkids fishing, swimming, to the arcade or for some ice cream, putt-putt or a golf cart ride. Mom loved to give golf cart tours of the camp ground and it was like riding in a parade with her, with hands waving and frequent stops to meet and greet someone new. I think she knew everyone and they loved her as she loved them!

As the years went on, Ken’s failing health brought them back to Zebulon. After 25 years of marriage and Ken’s passing, Mom married Tommy Stott. I always say, “Some people get 1 love story, Mom & Tommy got 2!” After both had been happily married and lost their spouses, they vowed to make the most of every day together. Understanding the gravity of time they decided to celebrate their anniversary every month vs every year. They truly made it their commitment and heartfelt intention to shower the other with love daily and keep God at the center. Not only did they love the Lord but they loved to serve the Lord together. Mom served alongside Tommy as he led the Berean Sunday School class for 9 years. She was his prayer partner, deacon and class secretary. When they weren’t in church, they loved to be adventurous and travel! They traveled to the mountains of NC the most, particularly Mount Airy (also known as Mayberry). They loved to sight see on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Other things they enjoyed was eating at Denny’s, having ice cream dates and watching their favorite shows or pastors on television.

For every season of life and town she lived in she embraced all with love, joy and compassion. She has left us with a legacy of love that will go on forever in each of us.

She was preceded in death by her late husband Kenneth Boyette; her sisters Frances Peed & Sandra Moore; her parents Mack & Lorraine Leggett; her grandson Thomas Stott.

Her legacy of love lives on through her surviving family including her husband, Thomas Stott; her children, Karen (Ben) Long of Zebulon, Joseph (Cindy) Parrish of Zebulon; her step-children, Karen (John) Candes, Kim (Jimmy) Moore, Amy (Jack) Winslow and Edwin (Diane) Stott; along with her grandchildren, Brooks (Alex), Katelyn, Cameron, Alexander, Evangelos and Spencer; her sisters Gail Leggett & Linda Howell; and her many nieces and nephews.
