Marie Shealy

Marie Barnes Shealy, 92, of Wilson, died Tuesday, February 24, 2026, in her home. 

The funeral will be in Maplewood Cemetery, Section C, Saturday, February 28 at 2:00 PM, conducted by Rev. Ray Wells. The family will be at home all other times. Donation was made to ECU Brody School of Medicine in Greenville.

Mrs. Shealy was co-owner of the former Shealy’s Bake Shoppe with her late husband, John C. Shealy, Sr., to whom she was married for over 40 years. She loved God and some of her last words were, “He is a good God.”

Surviving are her daughters, Cynthia Galloway of the home and Karen Christensen (Mark) of Havelock; son, John Carroll Shealy, Jr. of Black Creek; grandchildren, Christy Kite and Kelly Bradshaw (Carl) of Wilson, Brandon Etheridge (Kellie) of Elm City, Brittany Lamm (Trey) of Lucama, John Thomas Etheridge (Jessica) of Princeton and Buffy Poole (Tripp) of Stella; great-grandchildren, Chandler Hauerwas, Autumn, Ashton and Alex Bradshaw of Wilson, Riley Etheridge of Elm City, Emma and Payton Lamm of Lucama, Madison, Leah and Harper Etheridge of Princeton, Hunter Poole of Greenville and Sydney Paige Poole of Stella.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, William Oscar and Dollie Elizabeth Driver Barnes; sisters, Clara Gay, Virginia Campbell, Emma Gray Evans and Annie Morris Kennedy; brothers, Floyd, Oscar and Fred Barnes. 

The family recognizes her special friends, Michele Spinella and Kim Rose; the staff of Gentiva Hospice, especially Ann, Mary, Crystal, Jonathan and Laura.
