Mary Allene Johnson Simmons, 97, died peacefully in her sleep, at the home of her daughter, Mary Susan Heath, of Goldsboro, on February 2, 2021. Until January of this year, she was a long-time resident of Kenly.
There will be a celebration of Mary’s life on Saturday, February 6, at Kenly Missionary Baptist Church, 1730 NC Hwy 222 W, Kenly, at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow in the Kenly Cemetery. Both services are open to the public. The family will greet those in attendance at the cemetery. Masks and social distancing are required. Mary loved her church, Kenly Missionary Baptist; her church family, and her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughters, Mary Susan Heath; Ann Pittman of Kenly (fiancé Jerry Davis); and Nancy Johnson (Bill) of Four Oaks. Her grandchildren are Don Yates, Jr. (Julie), Jason Horne (Sarah), Leah Fulkerson (Will), Mary Katherine Preston (Rick), Patrick Pittman (Kelly), Joseph Stutts (Tiffany), Leigh Ann Stutts, and Kevin Stutts. Great-grandchildren are Emily Yates, John Yates, Caleb Fulkerson, Chloe Fulkerson, Jay Preston, Mary Miller Preston, Maggie Pittman, Palmer Pittman, and Jayce Stutts.
Mrs. Simmons was preceded in death by her husband, R.A. Simmons; her parents, Lehman H. Johnson and Mabel Jones Johnson; brother, Lehman H. Johnson, Jr.; sister, Sulou Wagstaff; and son-in-law, Thomas Heath.
