Mickey Drummond

William Merritt “Mickey” Drummond, Jr., 82, of Fremont, died Tuesday, April 2, 2024.

The funeral will be held Sunday, April 7, 2:00 PM, at Fremont United Methodist Church, followed by visitation.  Interment with Navy Honors will be in Elmwood Cemetery.

Mickey was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and community leader.  He served on the Fremont Town Board and was a member of the Rotary Club.  Further, he faithfully served the community youth as a Boy Scout leader where he guided nine young men to the rank of Eagle Scout including his three sons, and he was recognized with the prestigious Silver Beaver Award.  In addition, he was a youth baseball, basketball and football coach.  He proudly served his country as a Naval Seabee in the Vietnam War.  He was an avid golfer, hunter, fisherman, and he enjoyed wood-working in his retirement years as well as travelling the world with his loving wife.  He was a graduate and life-long fan of Wake Forest University.    His career with State Farm Insurance spanned more than 30 years.  He will be dearly missed by his family, friends and all those he impacted by his years of service.   

He is survived by his wife, Vicki Walker Drummond; daughter, Meredith Self (Scott) of Burlington; sons, William M. “Mike” Drummond III (Becky) of Clemmons, Matthew Drummond (Stacy) of Fremont, and Bryan Drummond (Jenny) of Franksville, WI; grandchildren, Tori, Mary-Beth, Caroline, Karley, Jake, Griffin, Mackenzie, Will, Liza, Faith and Luke; sister, Pat Murphy of Rocky Mount.
