A celebration of her life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 22nd at Wilson Memorial Service, with burial to follow at Maplewood Cemetery in Wilson.
Myrtle was born in Black Creek, North Carolina, on April 15, 1928, to the late Charles and Esther Britt Mercer. She enjoyed sharing photos and talking about her very large family and about time spent on the family farm with her brothers and sisters.
Myrtle retired from the Wilson County School System where she worked as an educator for many years. During her retirement years, she spent countless hours diligently working in her yard and garden. She had a talent for always placing flowers in just the right spot throughout her yard and took great pride in the beautification of her yard and neighborhood. Myrtle spent time as a volunteer with various civic groups and was a Life Member of the Free Will Baptist Woman’s Auxiliary.
She is survived by her sister, Dorothy "Dot" Mercer Suggs, of Wilson. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and their families.
In addition to her parents, Myrtle was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd F. Lamm and twenty brothers and sisters.
The family would like to thank Spring Arbor of Wilson for providing compassionate care and assistance to Myrtle and a specific thank you to Fran Wilkins and her staff in Cottage Care.
