Nell Wheeler

Nell Bowen Wheeler, 82, of Wilson, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 10, 2025 surrounded by family.

A Celebration of Life Service will be on Saturday, September 6, 11:00 AM, at First United Methodist Church followed by visitation.

Nell was born in Washington, North Carolina and graduated from East Carolina University with a degree in teaching. She spent 30+ years in the public school system dedicated to educating children. Nell was an active member of Wilson Woman’s Club and First United Methodist Church for many years. She always enjoyed playing bridge, shopping and spending time with family, especially her grandsons.

She is survived by her son, Rob Wheeler, Jr. (Karyl) of Wilson; daughter Kristin Humphrey (Jason) of Swansboro; grandchildren, Trey Wheeler, J.T. Wheeler, Brady Wheeler, Spencer Humphrey, and Preston Humphrey.

Nell was preceded in death by her husband Robert Alan Wheeler; parents, James Westbrook Bowen and Nell Benthall Bowen.
