Patty Mercer

Patty Jett Mercer, 70, of Elm City, died Sunday, September 14, 2025.

A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted by Rev. John Scott Thursday, 6:00 PM, at Wilson Memorial Service followed by visitation.

Patty worked for over twenty years at Wilson Medical Center as a Patient Representative and other various positions in the hospital’s business office. Patty spent her retirement years watching her favorite ghost hunting “programs” with her son and best buddy, Anthony. Debating conspiracy theories or deep religious conversations was a normal Sunday afternoon routine for them. Patty instilled into Macon how to be strong and independent and would say Macon would always find a way to make things work.

It was an absolute joy for Patty to be Nanny to Owen, Addison, and Brennan when they were babies and wild toddlers. Whether it was pretending to know about Star Wars to entertain Owen or teaching Brennan how to make homemade bread. Patty adored her grand-babies.

Through it all, Patty was an avid animal lover and loved all of her fur babies and grand-fur babies.

She will be greatly missed by all that love her.

She is survived by her son, John Anthony Mercer of Wilson; daughter, Macon McCoy (Mark) of Elm City; step-son, Junior Brinkley (Rachel) of Wilson; grandchildren, Owen Cockrell, Brennan Elizabeth Cockrell, Addison Brinkley, and Gracyn Brinkley; brother, Keith Jett (Jennifer) of Lucama; step-sister, Ernestine Hardy of Goldsboro, and grand-fur baby, Moana.

Patty was preceded in death by her mother, Kathleen Beamon Kearney; father, Rev. Raymond W. Kearney; sister, Jayne Kearney; brothers, Wayne Jett, Joe Jett, and Ray W. Kearney II.
