Rebecca Lynn Spivey Sitterson, 55, of Goldsboro, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, June 6, 2026.
A graveside service will be held at Maplewood Cemetery in Wilson on Sunday, June 14, at 2:00 PM. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at Wilson Woman's Club, 402 Broad St West, Wilson.
She was born in Washington, NC on August 15, 1970 to Herman Aubrey Spivey and Bessie Morgan Spivey. After graduating from Plymouth High School, she earned her Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from the University of North Carolina Wilmington and Master's Degree in Education Counseling from East Carolina University.
She began her professional career in 1994 as a Guidance Counselor at Kinston High School in Kinston where she worked until 1997. In that year, she married Scott Sittterson and moved to Germany, to be with him while serving in the United States Air Force.
Rebecca and Scott moved frequently during his Air Force career with Rebecca finding employment in education services with each new location around the world. Her civil service career with the United States Army and Air Force spanned 17 years, where she advised service members in their pursuit of higher education and training. She was awarded the Civilian Meritorious Service Award upon her retirement to recognize her sustained outstanding performance and exceptional contributions to service members.
Rebecca is survived by her husband, Scott Sitterson; mother, Bessie Morgan Spivey of Wilson; brother, William Culbreth “Bill” Spivey of Wilson; aunt, Brenda Spivey of Myrtle Beach, SC; cousins, Angela Williams (Garner), Shannon Howard, Joe Spivey (Amanda), Susan Karn, Bill Haywood (Lu), Kenzie Rhinehart (Matt), and Kimber Karn; father and mother-in-law, Ray and Hilda Sitterson of Plymouth; brothers-in-law, Ray Ritterson, Jr. (Anna) and Matthew Sitterson.
She was preceded in death by her father Herman Aubrey Spivey and her uncle, Wayne Spivey.
Those close to her recognized her quick wit (a trait attributed to her late father) and her deep love and commitment to her family. She and Scott travelled the world together, sampling food and taking in sights well beyond the borders of their hometown of Plymouth. Although she lived a full life, it ended too soon and the love, joy, and compassion she brought to everyone in her circle will be truly missed.
