It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Ruth Upchurch Worrell, a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister. Ruth’s loving spirit touched the hearts of all who knew her, and she leaves behind a legacy of kindness, hard work, and dedication.
Ruth was a devoted wife to her beloved husband, Ralph Worrell. A woman of many talents, she spent much of her life as an office manager in the automotive industry before dedicating 20 years of her career to nurturing children at Building Blocks for Tots. Ruth’s creativity and nurturing heart were reflected in her love for crafting, sewing, gardening, cooking, and preserving food through canning and freezing. She found great joy in creating beautiful things and sharing them with her loved ones.
From her high school days, when she was honored as "Best Dressed," Ruth took pride in her appearance, always making sure to leave the house with her hair, makeup, and lipstick in place. Her attention to detail and sense of style were a reflection of her inner beauty and grace.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, William David (Dee) Upchurch and Mildred Page Upchurch, and her brothers, Robert Upchurch and Raymond Upchurch.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Ralph Worrell; her daughters, Donna Adams and husband, Mark, and Connie Holt and husband, Donn; her grandchildren, Andy Adams and wife, Christie, Nicole Alligood and husband, Bonnor, Catherine Joseph and husband Dawson, Adam Carter, Matthew Carter, Walker Holt and wife Jessica, and Thompson Holt; and her great-grandchildren, Lexi Adams, Luke Adams, Addison Alligood, and Elise Holt. Ruth is also survived by her sister, Marie Todd and husband, Joe, and brothers, Milton Upchurch and wife, Donna, and Edward Upchurch and wife, Carolyn.
In honoring Ruth’s memory, flowers are welcome. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Evansdale United Methodist Church, 4334 Evansdale Road, Wilson, NC 27893.
Ruth’s legacy of love, care, and beauty will forever remain in the hearts of her family and all those who had the privilege of knowing her.
