Sherry Joyner

Sherry Ann Joyner, 61, of Knightdale, died Saturday, March 30th in an automobile accident alongside her wife and life partner of 12 years, Lynn Cash.

A Celebration of Life Service will be on Saturday, April 13, 2024, 3:00 PM, at Wilson Memorial Service, 2811 Fieldstream Dr N, Wilson, followed by visitation.

Sherry recently moved to Wesley Chapel, FL after retiring. She was known for her compassion, strength and fierceness. She was passionate and never shied away from standing up for what was right. She was selfless, kind and found purpose in offering support to anyone in need. She had an undying love for her children and grandchildren. She was devoted to her family and loved them unconditionally. 

Sherry enlisted in the Air Force at age 18. She was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant after 8 years of service. She was immensely proud of her service and carried her experience through all aspects of her life. She spent the majority of her career in the pharmaceutical industry. She worked for multiple pharmaceutical companies, most notably Thermo Fisher Scientific in Greenville, NC of which she retired in October 2023. She was known as the “honey badger” by her colleagues in reference to her quickness and seriousness in which she accomplished tasks.

She is survived by her children, Jamie Evans (Matthew) of Greenville, Dylan Joyner of Raleigh, and Chelsea Coraggio (Cory) of Everett, WA; grandchildren, Olivia Coraggio, Weston Coraggio, and Ryder Coraggio of Everett, WA; mother, Janice Joyner of Elm City; siblings, Amy Tant (Jimmy) of Elm City, Raymond Joyner (Lynn) of Elm City, and Jennifer Brantley of Nashville; multiple nieces and nephews and best friend, Bruce Shackelford.

Sherry was preceded in death by her father, Ray Brantley; sister, Sandy Edwards and lifelong friend, James Joyner. 

She will be missed by all that knew her and never forgotten while she rests in our Lord’s hands.

In lieu of flowers, Sherry would prefer donations be made to UNC Health Foundation designated for UNC Rex Cancer Center, 2901 Blue Ridge Road, Raleigh, NC  27607.
