Joyce “Sue” Gates Bartlett Eason, 91, of Lucama, died Friday, July 4, 2025.
A graveside service will be Tuesday July 8th, 10:00 AM, at the Black Creek Cemetery conducted by Rev. Bill Groce, followed by visitation. The family will be at the home of Jeaneen and James Lucas in Wilson, all other times.
Mrs. Eason graduated from nursing school in 1971 and was an LPN who worked at Wilson Memorial Hospital, NC Special Care Center, and the Brian Center for 33 years. She was a member of Milbournie FWB Church but was unable to attend in recent years. She loved to work in her yard and grew some of most beautiful flowers around. Her family was very important to her and bragged about them often.
She is survived by her daughter, Jeaneen Bartlett Lucas (James) of Wilson; Marty Bartlett (Hope) of Black Creek; grandchildren, Crystal Robinson (Gordon), Heather King (Chase), and Ashley Bartlett; eight great-grandchildren; her little boy “Toby”; several nieces and nephews.
Sue was preceded in death by her husbands, Henry Kermit Bartlett (2000) and Billy Eugene Eason (2020), her parents Joel Elmore and Carlyne Brice Hill Gates of Lenoir County; step-father, Zack Grady; grandson, James Lucas; sisters, Jean Batten, Betty Barfield, and Brenda Hobgood, brothers, Frank Gates, Robert Gates, Jimmy Gates, and Roy Palmer Grady.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Freedom Farm Ministries, 3109 US Highway 421 N, Boone NC 28607 or to the Free Will Baptist Children’s Home, PO Box 249, Middlesex, NC 27557.
