Sybil Lucas

Sybil Dawson “Tildy” Lucas, 93, of Wilson, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 3, 2024, surrounded by her family.

A graveside service will be Tuesday, March 5, 2:00 PM, at Maplewood Cemetery, followed by visitation.  Rev. Patsy Jones will officiate.

Mrs. Lucas graduated from Charles L. Coon High School in 1949 and was employed by Liberty Insurance Company in accounting, retiring with 31 years of service.  A second career followed at JC Penney in the catalog department where she once again retired with 30 years of service at age 81.

She joined Peace Church in 1966 where she served as Sunday school secretary for many years.

Mrs. Lucas enjoyed the life she led and never questioned what was placed before her and she loved her family dearly.

She is survived by her son, William G. “Bill” Lucas, Jr. (Gloria) of Wilson; grandchildren, Chad Lucas (Amanda) of Greenville, Lance Lucas (Victoria) of Stantonsburg, Danielle Kerns of Wilson, Chris Jones (Ashley) of Wilson, Jason Lucas (Amanda) of Fremont, and Cassidy Lucas of New Bern; great-grandchildren, Chance, Connor, Taylor, Haley, Will, Riley, Austin, Trent, Logan, Easton, Tyler, Holly, and Natalie; daughter-in-law, Lisa Jo Fox Lucas of Wilson; several nieces and nephews.  
 
Mrs. Lucas was preceded in death by her husband, William Gray Lucas; son, Clee Lucas; father, Major Dawson; mother, Lillian Jones Dawson Taylor; step-father, Sam Taylor; sister, Betty Dinger; brother, Jim Taylor.
