LUCAMA - Thurman Andrew Lamm, 85, died on Saturday, June 30, 2007. Funeral, Tuesday, 11:00 AM, Wilson Memorial Service, 2811 Fieldstream Drive. Interment, Evergreen Memorial Park. Rev. Larry Smith, minister of Lucama United Methodist Church will conduct a service of death and resurrection, assisted by Lannis B. Watson, American Legion Post 13 Chaplain. Born in Wilson County in 1922, Thurman grew up at his family's farm located near Lamm's Crossroads in the southwestern part of Wilson County. He graduated from Lucama High School and attended North Carolina State College before entering the Army to serve during World War II. A member of the 99th Division of the 385th Infantry Regiment, Thurman served in the Ardennes, Rhineland, and Central Europe campaigns and saw action in the Battle of the Bulge. He was recognized with the Bronze Star for Heroic or Meritorious Achievement, a Purple Heart, the American Theater Campaign Medal, the EAMET Campaign Medal with three bronze stars, a Good Conduct Medal, and the Victory Medal. He continued his support of fellow veterans through activities in the Wilson County American Legion Post 13, where he served as Commander from 1994-98 and was selected for membership in La Société des Quarante Hommes et Huit Chevaux
