On Tuesday morning, heaven gained a fierce and tender soul, and those of us left behind felt the earth shift in her absence. Tiffany Leona Heffington passed away unexpectedly at home on May 27, 2025. She was 54. Though her time here was far too short, the depth of her love and the impact she made on those around her will be felt forever.
Tiffany was born on February 5, 1971, and from the beginning, she was a light in every room. She was consistent, grounded, and steadfast in her love. Tiffany loved fiercely and with her whole heart. She was born to be a mother and truly found her greatest joy in raising her children, Lily and Stephen, who were her entire world. Every moment of her life revolved around them. Her love for her husband, Steve, was deep and unwavering. Together, they built a life rooted in family, laughter, and love.
Tiffany had a gift for making people feel truly seen and heard. In conversation, it was never about her—it was always about you. She could see the best in people, even when they could not see it in themselves. She was an encourager, a listener, a quiet force of support. She believed in the good in others and held strong to her convictions. She was fiercely independent, sometimes to a fault, rarely asking for help and always putting the needs of others before her own.
She is survived by her beloved husband Steve, their children Lily and Stephen, and her parents Marlene and Glenn Cassidy. She is also survived by her brother Brandon Cassidy (Marie), niece and nephews Lana (Bryce), Ian, Liam, and Eli; sister-in-law Melodie Lewis, nephews John, Scott (Sarah); brother-in-law Ed Heffington Jr. (Heidi) Sarah; father-in-law Ed Heffington Sr.; her Aunt Nancy Jo Buscemi and cousins Michael (Christie) Buscemi, and Lori White; Uncle Joe Troupe; and her dear friends Amanda Jones Dougherty, Vernon Mason, and Andrew Summerlin.
She also leaves behind a tight-knit group of co-workers at the Wilson County Department of Social Services, where she dedicated 25 years of her life. She was more than a colleague, she was a source of strength, kindness, and wisdom.
Tiffany was preceded in death by her beloved Aunt Marguerite Troupe, her grandfather Michael Buscemi Sr., her Granny B, Ida Ammirati Buscemi, Mother-in-Law Violynne Heffington, and Uncle Michael Buscemi Sr.
Tiffany’s impact is far-reaching. She will be remembered not only by her family and friends, but by the many lives she touched through her years working in childcare and later as a dedicated social worker. Former children she cared for, staff she mentored, and clients she served continued to remember her with warmth and gratitude. She gave so much to others, always quietly, always from the heart.
A brief outdoor service will be held in her honor on Saturday May 31st at 11 am at Wilson Memorial Service, 2811 Fieldstream Dr. N, Wilson, North Carolina 27896.Please bring a folding chair and join us as we remember and celebrate a life so beautifully lived.
Tiffany’s presence was a gift. Her absence leaves a space that cannot be filled. We will miss her forever.
