Annie Lee Horne

Annie Lee Horne, 96, of Elm City, passed away Tuesday, April 6, 2021 at her home.

Services will be held at Evergreen Memorial Park, Wilson, Friday April 9, at 11:00 AM with visitation to immediately follow at the graveside.

Annie Lee Horne was born August 27, 1924, in Nash County, North Carolina to the late William Redmond “Red” Eason and Minnie Bess Boone Eason. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 71 years, Calvin M. Horne, two brothers, two sisters, and a daughter-in-law.

Annie Lee graduated from East Carolina Teachers College in 1945 and began her teaching career at Rock Ridge High School. She also taught at Coopers School and Southern Nash Senior High, where she retired with a total of 32 years of service in 1986. Annie Lee spent her summers gardening and feeding her farming family.

Annie Lee was a devoted member of the Nash County Homemakers Extension Club, The Woman’s Society, and the Mt. Zion United Methodist Women. She was a lifelong member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church and served as Sunday School Secretary for many years. She and her lady friends provided many meals throughout the community over her lifetime.

Surviving are her sons, Alvin M. Horne (Susan) of Roxboro and Wayne R. Horne of Rocky Mount; grandchildren, David Askew and Tracey Bass, Christian Horne, Matthew Horne (Nikki), Kelly Mixson (Joey), Dina Seitz (Chris), BJ Horne (Katie), Josh Horne (Laura); great-grandchildren, Faith H., Hailey B. (Matt), Lindsey A., Payton H., Caley A., Jon Ayden H.,Lucy S., Adam H., Maggie S., Nehemiah H., Bailey H., Brooks M., Gideon H. and Judson H.

The family wants to especially thank the wonderful caregivers for providing loving and compassionate care during Annie Lee’s time of need.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, 5326 London Church Rd Elm City, NC 27822 and The Methodist Home for Children 1041 Washington St Raleigh, NC 27605.
