June 17, 1930 ~ June 11, 2020 (age 89)

Obituary

Jean Taylor Lamm, 89, of Wilson, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 11, 2020.

She was born in Newton Grove in Sampson County, North Carolina on June 17, 1930, to Leon Bayard and Laura Williams Taylor.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, a funeral service will be held at a later date.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, William Carnell Lamm, Sr.

Jean graduated from Rock Ridge High School in 1948 and East Carolina Teachers College in 1952 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry and with a Master of Library Science degree in 1967. She married Carnell in 1951, and they remained together until his passing 47 years later. A life-long resident of Wilson, she was an active member of the First United Methodist Church and a dedicated educator, teaching science at Lee Woodard High School and serving as the librarian at Margaret Hearne Elementary School.

She will be remembered for her love of reading, never without a novel or crossword puzzle in her hand; her work ethic and strength as she spent hours harvesting the gardens on the Lamm family farm in Lucama; her Southern cooking that brought people to the table for conversation and pecan pie; her quick wit and humor as she loved a well-told story; and the great joy she found in spending time with her family.

She is survived by her sons: William Carnell Lamm, Jr., and wife, Deborah, of Tarboro; Leon Taylor Lamm, Sr., and wife, Cathy, of Davidson; and John Richard Lamm, Sr., and wife, Martha, of Greenville; six grandchildren: Laura Ashley Lamm of Kinston;  Dr. Emily Blanton and husband, Dr. Josh Blanton, of Shelby; Sarah Humphreys and husband, Joseph, of Augusta, GA; Taylor Lamm, Jr., and wife, Michelle, of Greensboro, GA; Dr. Richard Lamm, Jr., and wife, Kalynn, of Lexington, KY; and Peter Lamm, and wife, Mallory, of Greensboro; eleven great-grandchildren: James, Ella and Evelyn Blanton; Solomon, Lily and Samuel Humphreys; Leo and Jackson Lamm; Jack, Bobby, and Lucy Lamm.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, PO Box 1423, Wilson, NC 27894.
